March Creations by Nicole Doiron

How happy I am to be here with you again to share some more
creations using Blue Fern Studios products.

Two of my layouts feature the beautiful new Courtship Lane collection,
starting with this romantic page inspired by the March sketch challenge.

This is the beautiful March sketch.  I'm hoping to see your take on it!

Like all Blue Fern Studios papers, Courtship Lane has elegant floral designs
and is centered on a Home Sweet Home theme.  And when I think of home, I think of love!
I used the Everlasting Love title which I covered in Imagine Ink Copper
embossing powder and then dabbed in white paint.

Below you see the fancy Floral Vine which I embossed in Imagine Ink Copper, Sage
and Iris embossing powders.  I love the way the mix of colors turned out.

I did some stenciling on my background and mixed in different purple shades of stains.
I added a small piece of the Ironwork Accents set adorned with a purple gem.

All and all, a very soft color palette with a touch of copper to match the beautiful,
albeit dead, rusted tree in front of which Yves and I posed in this picture.

Blue Fern Studios Supplies
Paper: Courtship Lane (Royal Street, Parkway, Calling Cards)
Chipboard: Everlasting Love, Floral Vine, Ironwork Accents
Imagine Ink Embossing Powder: Copper, Iris, Sage

My 2nd Courtship Lane inspired layout brings the 'home' theme home, so to speak.
I decided to scrap this old but precious family photo.  I have very few pictures of me alone as a baby
or with my family, and the ones I do have are of very bad 1970's quality. This one, however, is certainly
a favorite of mine and I found that it was perfect for Courtship Lane.

Slipped behind my photo is the Princess Window which I've treated with 2 shades of Imagine Ink  powders,
Ginger and Nutmeg. I then lightly dabbed on some copper and white acrylic paint.

I did the same to this piece from the Leafy Page Accents set...

and this fancy hinge from the Ironwork Accents.

Other chipboard pieces used are the Reminisce word from Serendipity Words 2 and the Shabby Brick Bits
which I simply covered with Snow embossing powder.

As you may know, I'm from Canada and, in my part of the country especially, we have the longest Winters!
They always seem to drag on and on and on... So to warm myself up a little,
I thought of using this adorable picture of my friends' daughters on a beautiful
Summer day matched with the bright happy papers from the Frolic collection.

The beautiful blue background paper, Petits Moments, covered in different shades of blue mist reminds
me of a bright blue sky.  I decided to combine it cut out circles of the pretty butterflies
from Dans le jardin paper.  I love the combination of blue and yellow.

I chose Sunshine Kisses as my title, using the Sunshine piece from the Optimist Word Set
that I colored in  Buttercup yellow Imagine Ink embossing powder.

Surrounding the picture is the Floral Medley Frame on which I used a mixture of Seven Seas,
Breeze and Azure embossing powders with added white paint.  You can also see below
the Mixed Media Poppies that I cut into 3 pieces to display across diagonally on my page behind the butterflies.

Lastly, I chose to add this sweet little heart and arrow from the Directions set... perfect to accentuate
the adorable sisterly love between these two little girls!

Whether or not it's Winter where you are, I hope I've added a little sunshine in your day with my projects!
I can't wait already until next month's post!

Sandi's September Creations

Hello, Blue Fern fans!
Sandi here with you today sharing my September projects.

My most recent Design Team package contained the new Autumn Anthology collection, papers, chipboard, stamps and oh, yes, the new Imagine mists! Two of my September projects were already done but I managed to get one Autumn Anthology project done for this time around. More coming next month as I adore these papers and matching chipboard, mists and stamps!

"Lucy @ 33"

I haven't done a "Lucy" layout in a few months, so I was definitely feeling the urge to scrap a photo of her. I chose the Penmanship paper and some matching Calling Card notes for a photo mat and title.  I prepared my background with gesso, stenciling and the new Essential Texture stamp along with a hint of the Leaf mist applied with a sponge.

The Shrine Frame was gessoed, spritzed with a gold mist and then embellished with some random dark gold embossing powder as well as some clear embossing powder.  I didn't allow the gold embossing powder to completely melt. I left it with some grainy texture. Love the result! The Ginger's Poppies are one of my favorite BFS pieces! They are so intricate and unique. Here I have gessoed them and added touched of distress ink for color. I also colorized the leaf portion with the new Imagine Leaf spray mist.

Just another close-up of Ginger's Poppies.

My Garden Lattice Bits on the right were perfect for adding a little something along the edges of my layout. Here they were primed and spritzed with more of the dark gold, tea-stained mist.  This is also a great close-up of the Essential Textures stamp and the new Leaf mist. A few flowers, pearls and it was done. So fun!

"The Best Day Ever"

Next, I used more of the Frolic collection to create a wedding layout. I've scrapped this photo before but gave it away, so maybe this one will be mine. I tore a few sheets of the Frolic paper to add layers and change up the look of the Frolic Allegro paper. Then I applied my mixed media, including the new Imagine Mist in Persimmon along with a gold from my stash. There will be new mist colors coming out with each new paper collection from what I understand.

The Butterfly Damask chippy was cut in half and used a layer beneath my photo. I've primed, inked and randomly embossed it. The Arrow Word set provided my little subtitle "Love This" which was primed and spritzed. Lots of paper layers beneath the photo just because I love layers.

Of course, my title was the fabulous Best Day Ever chipboard title. This time I painted it and then sponged it with white paint to shabby it up. The Frolic Dans le Jardin paper provides lots of great butterflies to fussy cut and add as embellishments! Get an extra of that one!

"Adorable"

Last is the layout I created for our September Sketch challenge. And yes, that is myself when I was about 2 years old. I've used the Frolic Mercantile paper as my base and kept the mixed media pretty simple on this one .. just heavy gesso and stenciling.

I've treated all four pieces of chipboard the same for this project. The Destiny collage, Celebration Hearts, Princess Window, and the Adorable title from the Good vibes word set were all primed, misted and treated with distress ink to finish them. I wanted a very monochromatic feel to the chippys so that they almost blended with the paper.

Loving the Celebration chippy on it's own in the upper right corner .. so sweet for a "toddler baby" page.

Cages All Over by Camilla

Hi! Camilla Ekman here with some new projects and I am using some new fabulous chipboards from Blue Fern Studios.

To create this rather neutral layout I layered some different patterned papers from Maja Design and also used a mask to create a white swirl. As a photo mat I used the BFS Graduated Circles. Underneath the circle I used two Blue Fern Flourishes, one to the left and one to the right. I clustered some flowers and a vine and added two cages from the BFS Veranda Cage Set. The chipboards are painted in white gesso.

Next is a girly layout where I use the BFS Princess Window as a part of my photo mat. A beautiful cage from the BFS Veranda Cage Set and a Bohemian Butterfly shine among the flowers and pearl swirls. Those chipboards are also painted in white gesso. The papers are from Maja Design.

My last project for this month is a bag card. I decorated the front of a paper bag. You can put a small gift inside and then close the paper bag and give it away as a card. The BFS Grande Cage is the centre of attention and I have only added a few small roses and some pink seam binding. The papers are from Maja Design.

Parts & Pieces w/Erin Blegen

Hello Blue Fern Studios friends! Erin Blegen here today with my last two projects for the month, showing you how to use up some of your bits and pieces for those who like to piece apart your chipboard to make the most of it. We all like our product to go a little further!

For both projects, I've used 7 Dots Studio products as we continue our month-long swap with them. What fun it has been combining them with Blue Fern chipboard!

First up, I have a canvas to share:

"Grown Up"
I had two pieces remaining from the Doily Bunting and Page Chains sets. I made them a part of my mixed media background by applying gesso, tape, and embossing powder over top of them.

Products Used:

Page Chains

Doily Bunting

(7 Dots Studio Products Used: "Messy Head" Collection paper and Elements, "All I Ever" Collection paper and Stickers, "9th Wave" Collection paper, and "Hopefully" Collection Stickers)

Next up, I have a very girly tag :)
"Love Happens!" Tag
For this tag, I took the top section of the Princess Window and one of the Heart Set pieces.

I simply painted the heart piece with gesso to accent the title of my tag. The window piece was primed with gesso before being traced with glossy accents. While the glossy accents was still wet, I sprinkled on broken glass glitter, star sequins, and microbeads.

Thank-you so very much for stopping by today! I hope you've had the chance to play along with our monthly sketch challenge- just a few more days left!

See you soon :)
